Alan Titchmarsh’s ITV ‘Love Your Garden’ visits Emma’s garden

Olympic Park visit

On 13 July, a grey wet afternoon, we visited the windswept London site to witness the ongoing landscaping. While the event buidlings were surprisingly finished, it’s a massive barren building site saved by the planting. Apart from stands of impressively mature London Plane trees in the concourse areas, the planting is concentrated along the banks of the River Lea which runs through the sight. As the building level is considerably higher than the river, the sloping banks of planting are an unexpected bonus mainly viewed when crossing the bridges.

Here at Loftus Road, the dull flat roof has been brought to life with the sedum roof.  It couldn’t have been simpler to roll out the pre-grown ‘carpet’ on the membrane.  On the sunny west facing roof it was flowering within 3 weeks in pinks and yellows and visited by feeding bees.
