Emma was commissioned by the owners of this award winning English sparkling wine and Timothy Hatton Architects to prepare the landscaping masterplan for their new winery.

The masterplan formed part of the successful Planning application for this “sleek” building set amongst the existing vineyards on the edge of the South Downs National Park.

The landscape and ecological planting scheme covers the creation and maintenance of nearly 7,000 square meters of new chalk downland grasses and wild flowers, extensive new native and biodiverse-mix hedgerows, an orchard & nuttery and specimen trees.

The chalk bed rock, fundamental to The Grange vineyards and brand, has been skillfully sculpted to allow the winery to lie low in the landscape.  Gabion retaining walls have been filled with flints salvaged from the construction project.  The precious clay ‘cap’ was retained to allow the germination of the seedings and establishment of the trees.
